About Us

We are Nicole and Mike, an average couple on a journey to live more sustainably: one Saturday at a time. On the whole, we are already mildly crunchy: we’re lacto-ovo vegetarian with the occasional seafood meal thrown-in, we buy peanut butter whose only ingredient is peanuts, we shop with reusable bags – the normal eco-friendly routine of any self-respecting Millennial. There’s a nagging feeling though that we’re not doing enough. We both have full time jobs, a cat, goals to exercise, eat well, spend time with family and friends, and keep our house clean. All of that leaves little time for us to focus on doing the hard work of learning to use less plastic, generate fewer carbon emissions, and minimize our contributions to the destruction of the planet . . .

But we’re trying. We’ve decided to dedicate a portion of our Saturdays to focusing on developing sustainable habits. Research tells us that in order to develop habits that stick, we should take incremental steps. And that’s where the 2×12 Reduction Challenge comes in: We’ve decided that every two weeks for 12 months, we are going to eliminate a new plastic item from our lives. We want to share the struggles, fails, and triumphs of this experiment with you to hold ourselves accountable and spread our optimistic view that individuals can reduce the damage being done to the earth. We hope you’ll take on the challenge too!
